Chatting to my friend over dinner a couple of weeks back, she told me about a wellness practice that she had adopted and how she was really feeling the benefits of it. It focussed on the teachings of Dr Rangan Chaterjee and his 4 Pillars of Health Plan. It really caught my interest and since then I have put a bit of research into his plan and have nearly finished his book.
Talk about a lightbulb moment 💡💡😁!!
The four pillars of health to which he refers are Relaxation, Sleep, Diet and Movement. Dr Chaterjee states that all too often when people embark on a “health kick” they tend to focus only on the diet and movement elements.
I totally agree with this and see it all too often with clients. I have even been guilty of it myself!! We beast ourselves in our workouts and starve ourselves in the kitchen!! This often leaves us feeling stressed and frazzled which in turn leads to poor sleep. Relaxation of any shape or form can be seen as “cheating”.
Thinking about it now - not taking a “4 pillar” approach to wellness can lead to all the hard work and effort we put into diet and exercise being in vain 😱😱!!
It is my intention this week to do a little bit of work on each of the 4 pillars as follows:-
Relaxation – I am going to meditate 🙏🏻for 10 minutes every morning and evening. I am going to reduce my screen time on my mobile and I am going to build in 2 rest days where I will not train. I believe that relaxation should be about fun and connection and I have two gigs coming up next weekend with good friends which I am so excited about 🎉🍸💃!!
Sleep 💤 – I will aim to get 8 hours of shut eye per night on average over the course of the week.
Movement – love and participate fully in the classes I teach this week connecting with all our amazing clients.
What pillars could you work on this coming week??? Whatever you chose to do - enjoy 😍😍xxx
